Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has launched a scathing attack at Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua of suppressing young politicians in the Mt Kenya region.
In a statement, Waiguru who is also the Chair, Council of Governors, said the DP and other government officers should not personalize their political offices.
Waiguru said the positions are held and not as personal properties and individuals should be free to express their interest to occupy them.
“While we respect the office of the Deputy President, and indeed any other office of leadership, a progressive democracy does not allow us as occupiers of public leadership offices to personalize them to the extent that it becomes taboo for anyone else to nurture and express ambition to occupy them. We hold these offices in trust not as owners,” Waiguru said.

Waiguru Argument
The governor advised Gachagua to mentor the women and the youth and women who has expressed interest in contesting for government and political positions.
“Let us recognize the right of all, especially our women and our youth to aspire to high office. Let us hold their hands in mentorship on political and socioeconomic leadership,” she said.
Waiguru explained that the youth and women have a right to dream of becoming leaders in future just like the current government officials did.
Furthermore, she emphasized that leaders like the DP should support the budding leaders instead of fighting them.
“Everyone has a right to dream and pursue their dreams like those in current leadership dreamt and their dreams actualized by the support of millions of youths and women. They too, deserve support, not hostility. Hopefully we all seek the best for Kenya,” Waiguru said.

Nyoro-Gachagua Rivalry
Her remarks came at a time when the Mt. Kenya region is witnessing growing supremacy battles between DP Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
Gachagua’s Mt Kenya allies asked President William Ruto to tame Kenya Kwanza politicians trying to create a war between the two.
Speaking on May 19, the leaders led by Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Embakasi North MP James Gakuya said there is a plot by youthful leaders from the region close to separate the DP from his boss ahead of 2027 elections.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga warned leaders fighting the DP to stay away from his path and allow him to champion the development of the region.
He said the region will not allow the DP to undergo the frustrations Ruto experienced during Jubilee’s second term in office.
“We will not allow our son to go through what Ruto went through in the hands of Uhuru Kenyatta. He was not given this seat by anybody; he fought for it. Our votes are what made him the DP; he is not in the position by default,” Kahiga said.
“Any form of insult to Gachagua is an insult to the Mt Kenya region. Those trying to bring bad blood between the president and his deputy, we are warning you,” he said.

Nyoro & Kiunjuri Role
Embakasi North MP Gakuya said there is a plot by politicians from Rift Valley to divide the Mt Kenya region.
Gakuya said youthful legislators from Central are being used to destabilize the region and asked President Ruto to cool them down.
“There is a plan being made in Rift Valley. We want to warn Rift Valley that we can organise ourselves. Our government is a coalition government, we don’t want any signs of division,” said Gakuya.
The National Assembly’s Trades Committee chairperson said Nyoro and Laikipia East lawmaker Mwangi Kiunjuri are being used to fight the DP.
“We want to see the President in the forefront to cool those youths. If they can’t go slow, we will deal with them politically,” Kiunjuri said.
