Narrelle Gilchrist is a PhD student in the Politics Department at Princeton University. She is interested in identity politics, local governance, and the interaction of formal and informal institutions as drivers of contentious politics and conflict. Her regional focus is on sub-Saharan Africa, and she has previously conducted fieldwork in Kenya. Past projects have examined the impact of decentralization on ethnic group grievances and conflict, and the attitudes of Kenyan university students toward ethnic politics. Before coming to Princeton, Narrelle obtained an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Florida.
