Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed how President William Ruto used to stop him from attending state functions with his wife.
While speaking at a church function in Kirinyaga County, the former Deputy President stated that President Ruto, on numerous occasions, denied him the chance to walk with his wife in several functions.
“These people hurt me, together with my wife when we were in the office, because William Ruto didn’t want me to walk with my wife in church when he was present. He told me that, protocol-wise, it’s only proper for me to be with my wife only when he is with his,” Gachagua alleged.
Additionally, Gachagua alleged that he was forced to inquire whether Rachael Ruto would accompany her husband to state functions so he could, in turn, ask his own wife to accompany him.

The former Deputy President also responded to leaders who have been criticizing him for always being accompanied by his wife at almost every function he attends.
“I loved walking with my wife for 35 years, then I was restricted for nearly two years. Now that I’m free, can’t you let me walk with her? I’ve noticed that William Ruto’s people are now complaining when I walk with my wife to church. Who exactly do they expect me to walk with?” the former Deputy President said.

He recalled an instance when former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was being unveiled as the AUC candidate, and his wife was nearly sent home after the First Lady changed her mind at the last minute and decided not to attend the event—though he eventually intervened.
“The Office of the First Lady had called Pastor Dorcas to confirm if she would attend the event. We went together.
After we had taken our seats, someone from protocol came and said, ‘Since Mama Rachael is not attending, Pastor Dorcas must leave.’ I said, ‘This is too much — why should she leave? You’ve done this to her many times. No, she won’t leave. Tell the President to leave instead,” Gachagua recalled.

Gachagua’s defense of frequently appearing with his wife at public functions comes just days after Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi criticized the former Deputy President for constantly being seen with his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, saying men should not walk with their wives everywhere.
“Wewe Mr. Dorcas, wacha kwanza kutembea na bibi yako kila siku,” said Sudi.
