Kenya has presented the candidature of the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), boss Mohamed Amin, for the position of Interpol Executive Committee representing the Africa Region during the upcoming INTERPOL General Assembly.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, on behalf of Kenya, appealed to all member states of the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RESCA) for their support and endorsement.
He noted that Kenya’s election to the committee would provide a strategic opportunity to advance African priorities and perspectives at the global level.
There are 15 RECSA Member States in the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa signatory to the Nairobi Declaration and Nairobi Protocol namely: Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania.
Roles Mohamed Amin Will Play
The Executive Committee at Interpol is the governing body in charge of supervising the execution of the General Assembly’s decisions and the administration and work of the General Secretariat.
The General Secretariat provides a range of expertise and services to member countries. They manage 19 police databases with information on crimes and criminals (from names and fingerprints to stolen passports), accessible in real-time to countries.
Also, they offer investigative support such as forensics, analysis, and assistance in locating fugitives around the world.

Composition of the Committee
It comprises elected members by the General Assembly, the Executive Committee has 13 members comprising the President of the Organization, three vice-presidents and nine delegates. They are all from different countries and the geographical distribution is balanced.
The President is elected for four years, and vice-presidents and delegates for three. They are not immediately eligible for re-election either to the same posts or as delegates to the Executive Committee.
