Exit from the Kenyan Market
In 2025, Betway Kenya initiated a liquidation tax dispute with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), which is demanding over Ksh 5 billion from the betting company.
This dispute traces back to July 2019 when the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) delayed the renewal of licenses for several betting operators, including Betway, due to alleged non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
Moreover, in 2020, Betway faced a tax demand of Ksh 158 million, which was later upheld by the Tax Appeals Tribunal.
In 2023, the betting company closed its operations in the Kenyan market.
The platform featured competitive odds, live streaming, and a user-friendly interface. Betway Kenya sponsored the Kenya Premier League and local clubs like Kariobangi Sharks FC.
