BIOGRAPHY
Dr. James Mwangi is a Kenyan entrepreneur career banker and businessperson currently the group managing director and the group CEO, of Equity Group Holdings which owns Equity Bank.
Education
James Mwangi joined Nyagatugu Primary School in Murang’a county. He went to Ichagaki Secondary School for his O-Levels and Kagumo High School in Nyeri County for his A-levels studying English literature, Geography and economics
Dr. Mwangi then joined the University of Nairobi where he acquired a bachelor’s degree in commerce. He also pursued accounting, and he is a Certified Public Account (CPA).
In addition, he holds other academic qualifications like a Bachelor’s in Advanced Management Program from Strathmore Business School, a Doctorate Degree in Entrepreneurship from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology, a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration from Kenya Methodist University and a Doctor of Humane Letters from Kenyatta University.
Family Life
James Mwangi was born in Murang’a County Kangema Constituency in Central Province Kenya. He is Married to Jane Njuguna, and they have three sons.
Career life of James Mwangi
James first started his career as an auditor at the Trade Bank Group in 1993. He was later promoted to strategy manager of the group.
He later joined the equity building society as the Finance and Operations Director a position he held until 2004 when he became the Chief Executive Officer of the Group.
Achievements
He received the 2020 Oslo business for peace award. In 2019, he was named among the top 50 CEOs in the world. He was also the 2015 CEO of the year award by Africa Investor,
Additionally, he was named Africa Business Leader of the year in 2013, received Global vision Award in 2007, and received Chief of the order of the Burning Spear (CBS) in 2011.
In addition, he was named Kenya National Heros and Legends 2011.
