A family in Jacaranda Estate, Kahawa West, Nairobi County, is mourning the death of their five-year-old daughter, Baby Amanda, who was allegedly thrown over the balcony of their fifth-floor apartment by her uncle.
The uncle had reportedly visited their home while under the influence of alcohol.
In a statement, the Jacaranda Gardens management confirmed the incident and detailed the events leading to the girl’s death.
“The family in question resides in C4-205, and the individual involved is Amanda’s uncle. The uncle caused a commotion in the apartment where baby Amanda and the house girl were present. He overpowered the house girl and snatched baby Amanda from her,” said Lilian Gichuhi, the property manager.
Baby Amanda meets her death
According to Lilian, the house girl sensed danger and ran out of the apartment screaming for help. Unfortunately, no one intervened in time to save the young girl.
Security personnel and neighbours, alarmed by the screams, rushed to the scene. They subdued the intoxicated uncle and notified Kiamumbi police.
A video that later surfaced showed the suspect still intoxicated and seemingly unremorseful as residents confronted him
“If those cameras show the reality, you people will know who I am. I know what I have done. I am a Kenyan. I want to be taken to court. I threw a doll, not my daughter,” he mumbled incoherently.
Amanda was rushed to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital by neighbours, where she was immediately admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. But she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Authorities respond to the incident
“The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) responded swiftly, and the suspect was taken into custody. Due to injuries he sustained, the police took him to Kiambu Hospital for treatment,” the property manager added.

The house girl recorded a statement, and the case was referred to Kahawa West Police Station.
