A family is seeking justice for the death of their kin who was allegedly shot during the anti-Finance Bill protests in Mombasa County.
According to the family, 26-year-old Dennis Otieno was not participating in the demonstrations, as he was on his way home from work before being shot three times.
They noted that Dennis had left Kitale to search for a job in the coastal city and had been away for a year before his sudden death.
His mother Coleta Achieng stated that she had been looking for him for over 15 days only to find out he had been killed.
George Omondi his uncle revealed that they tried calling him during this time but got the news of his demise through social media.

“Our son had come to look for a job, but then we found out he was dead. And to make things worse, he was shot three times,” Omondi said.
“My child was killed like a chicken; He was not part of the protesters. He was on his way home when he was shot,” Dennis’s mother, Coleta Achieng noted.
Therefore, the family has called upon the government to ensure all those involved in the death of their son face the arm of the law.

Demands to IPOA
On June 29, the Intenational Commision of Jurists (ICJ) Kenya, had given an ultimatum to the Independent Police Authority (IPOA) to investigate alleged police brutality witnessed during the recent nationwide protests.
ICJ had issued its demands while revealing the number of deaths and injuries that had resulted from police brutality during the demonstrations.
Police Reforms Working Group (PRWG-K) demanded prompt action from IPOA to investigate the listed instances of police violations in detail, noting that, up to that point, it had documented 23 deaths, 34 enforced disappearances/abductions, and 271 injuries.
