The fund is administered by the Registrar of Political Parties, and its main source is 0.3% of the national government revenue, supplemented by membership subscription fees, contributions, and donations from lawful sources.
A political party must meet the following conditions to qualify for funding from the Political Parties Fund:
- Secure at least 3% of the total votes cast in the preceding general election.
- Have at least one-third of its office bearers from a different gender (to avoid more than two-thirds being of the same gender).
- Ensure representation of special interest groups (e.g., youth, women, persons with disabilities) in its governing body
