The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) on Wednesday October 10 announced water supply interruption within the city.
According to Nairobi Water, the supply interruption will affect several areas as the company embarks on repair works following the shutdown of Ngethu Water Treatment plant.
Furthermore, Nairobians in the affected estates will experience the shortage for one and a half days.
“The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company would like to inform its esteemed customers that there will be a complete shutdown of the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant,” read part of the statement.

The shutdown will start from 6am Thursday, October 12 to midday Friday October 13.
“The complete shutdown of the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant will commence on Thursday,12 October 2023 from 6:00 am to Friday 13 October 2023 ,12:00pm.” stated the notice.
Nairobi Areas to be Affected
During the shutdown nine areas across Nairobi will be affected. They include the entire Central Business District, University of Nairobi main campus, Coca cola factory, Athi river, mlolongo area, Gatundu and Kiambu towns.

On the other hand, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, United Nations Gigiri and EPZ are notable government installations that will be affected.
Subsequently areas along Juja road, Jogoo road, Outer-ring Road, Kangundo, Thika road, Limuru road and a section of Langata will experience water supply interruption.
Notably some areas in Lavington, along James Gichuru, Riverside, Kilimania and Kileleshwa will also go without water.

EL Nino Preparations
Likewise, the City Water Company said it is conducting repairs and preparing for the anticipated El Nino rains.
“The shutdown will facilitate repair of a major leakage on the raw water pipeline between matara Raw water chamber and Ngethu Water Treatment plant,” further adding “it will involve carrying out a scheduled maintenance at the Kiambu in preparation of the anticipated EL Nino rains,” read the statement.
