The Kenya Meteorological Department – KMD has issued a five-day weather forecast for the period from May 20 to May 24, 2025. In the latest forecast, Kenya Met predicts continued rainfall in several regions of the country. Rain is expected to continue in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and North-Western Kenya.
Additionally, Heavy rainfall is anticipated to continue in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley. The affected counties include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
These counties are expected to experience morning rains in some areas throughout the forecast period, with showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoons. During the night, occasional showers are expected in some places.
Kenya Met Lists Regions to Continue Expecting Heavy Rainfall
Maximum temperatures in these regions are forecasted to reach 29°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to drop to 10°C.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi County and surrounding areas such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi Counties, the mornings will be cloudy with occasional sunny intervals and a chance of rain in a few places.

Showers are expected in the afternoon and during the night. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 27°C, with minimum temperatures around 6°C.
In the North-Western region, which comprises Turkana and Samburu Counties, light rainfall is anticipated in the mornings, followed by showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons. Maximum temperatures may reach 37°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to be around 9°C.
Weather Forecast for Other Regions
The South-Eastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana River, are forecasted to have sunny intervals in the morning. Showers are expected in a few areas during the afternoon, with cloudy conditions likely at night. Maximum temperatures are projected to reach 32°C, with minimum temperatures around 12°C.

In the Coast region, which consists of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, morning showers are expected in a few places throughout the forecast period. Additional showers may occur in the afternoon. During the night, the weather is likely to be partly cloudy. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 31°C, with minimum temperatures around 23°C.
