Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has revealed a category of political leaders who will not be eligible to contest for elective seats under his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Speaking on May 25, Gachagua stated that uneducated leaders will not be granted the DCP ticket.
He referred to a musician from the Mt. Kenya region who allegedly reported him to DP Kithure Kindiki after he refused to issue him the party ticket.
“I have seen one musician who said I cannot give him the DCP ticket, it is true. How can you give a standard two-dropout party ticket?” he asked.
Gachagua claimed that leaders aligned with the Kenya Kwanza government are unreasonable.
He stressed that the Mt. Kenya region must elect educated individuals to positions of power.
“We must change the quality of leaders elected in the Mt. Kenya region. All those in Ruto’s camp have no brains,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua Outline Plans for DCP
Gachagua shared his plans to change the narrative and earn respect from the region.
“Someone who does not know even one English or Kiswahili word, to be elected as MP in DCP?” he asked.
“The quality of leaders who will be elected under DCP will make you respect me for the next 30 years.”
Further, Gachagua revealed that DCP will prioritize professionals, technocrats, and educated contestants during the party nominations.
He urged the other unfit contestants to join Ruto and meet his candidates in the elections.
“I will make sure that we vet the leaders who will receive our ticket so that we have those who have gone to school, professionals who know what they are doing and don’t work for their stomach. The others can join UDA, we meet in the ballot,” he said.

Party Nominations
Additionally, he stated that all interested candidates will be selected through the party primaries.
He disclosed that the nomination exercise will include a debate where candidates present their plans and answer questions.
“There are others who want a direct ticket, but there is nothing like that. We will go for nominations, and we will pick,” he said.
“Part of our nomination process will be a debate. Contestants will state their vision and be asked questions in English.”

Message to Ruto
Gachagua also criticised President William Ruto for labelling DCP as a tribal party.
He asserted that the incident at Kakamega where DCP leaders were teargassed was intended to tarnish the image of the party.
“I sent my allies to Kakamega, and they attracted huge crowds. He sent police officers to beat people to label the party as tribal. I want to tell Ruto that this party is all over Kenya and will unseat you in 2027,” he said.
