Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has donated his piece of land to the government for the construction of Affordable Housing projects.
President William Ruto made the revelation while addressing residents of Kisumu City on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Ruto was speaking ahead of the handover of the housing units in Kisumu.
He stated that Raila donated a total of 5 acres to help the government construct houses for Kisumu residents.
”I have come with Raila, who has given us his personal land amounting to 5 acres to construct the affordable houses so that the people of Kisumu City can also benefit,” Ruto said.
Ruto said the government plans to build an additional 750 housing units on the land that Raila donated.
He stated that the government is grateful for the gesture and encouraged Kenyans to thank him too.
“I want to thank Raila on behalf of the government for donating land so that we can build houses for the residents of Kisumu,” Ruto said.
He said the government is building affordable houses in Kisumu, including the Makasembo project, where Phase One is complete.
The President said the government is building 8 new markets in Kisumu County.
Further, he said the government has set aside enough money to handle issues of the blue economy so that we can build a fish landing site for Kisumu, Migori and Homabay counties.

Raila Demands to Govt
Raila asked the residents of Nyanza to welcome the President during the tour of the region.
He said he had engaged the government on issues related to agriculture, job creation and health.
“We want the government to build factories in the region so that the youth can be employed,” he said.
We also want the government to improve the conditions of hospitals and schools.”
Additionally, he hinted that the ODM party knows the direction it will take in the future.

Broad-Based Govt
Raila said he agreed to work with the President under the Broad-Based Government to deliver services to Kenyans.
He emphasised that the ODM could not wait for another regime to solve the problems facing Kenyans.
“We have agreed to improve the standards of living for Kenyans and cannot wait for another government. We want the current one to deliver services to the people,” Raila said.
