The National Youth Service (NYS) has advertised 200 opportunities for trained drivers. In a notice dated June 20, NYS said the jobs are spread across countries, and the client has been involved in offering public transport services within Kenya over the past 15 years.
The Company has gradually but steadily grown from 30 units to a fleet of 300 Units.
NYS mentioned that the growth demonstrates a strong commitment to service excellence within the Public Transport Sector.
“With competitive salary packages, our client wishes to employ National Youth Service graduates, for their resilience and discipline in the position of Drivers, to work in all the 47 counties in Kenya,” NYS said.
Successful candidates will operate the vehicle responsibly at all times and in accordance with Kenyan traffic laws and NTSA regulations.
They will ensure that the vehicle is taken for routine servicing once every month at the designated NYS Service Bay.
Drivers will monitor and report daily mileage, fuel consumption, unusual usage, warning lights, dashboard indicators, and any unusual noises, mechanical problems or defects immediately.
Additionally, they will carry out daily vehicle checks, including engine oil, coolant and brake fluid levels, tyre pressure, tyre condition and wheel nuts, cleanliness of lights, mirrors and license plates.

Academic Qualifications
Interested applicants must have a KCSE certificate with at least a D+ (plus) or its equivalent from a recognised institution.
They must be able to read and write fluently in English and Kiswahili.
Additional training in customer service, hospitality, or communication will be an added advantage.

NYS Professional Qualifications
Applicants must possess a BCE-Class Professional Driving Certification from the NYS.
Other professional requirements include.
1. Valid PSV (Public Service Vehicle) License issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA);
2 . Have undertaken proficiency tests for drivers (Driving and mechanics) i.e attended and passed a driving test conducted by an approved competent authority/Or passed a suitable test conducted by an approved competent; authority /Or passed a suitability test organized by the chief mechanical and Transport Engineer in the ministry responsible for Government Transport.
3. Be between 23-35 years of Age.
4 . Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), issued within the last 6 months.
5. Be physically and medically Fit.
6. Completion of defensive driving or first aid training from a recognised institution is an added advantage
7. Minimum 5 years driving experience with accident-free records.

Professional Qualifications
Interested applicants must meet the following professional requirements.
1. Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks (engine oil, radiator water, tyre pressure, etc.).
2. Strong knowledge of NTSA regulations, County Transport Laws, and national traffic rules.
3 . Navigation skills, including the use of GPS and digital maps (Google Maps, Waze, in-app navigation).
4. Record-keeping skills to manage work tickets and vehicle servicing logs.
